  • Train time at Kaub. The Rhein main is very busy most times so it is not uncommon to have "oh sh*t" moments like this...
  • A Rail4Chem tank car train heads upriver south of Kaub. The hills dwarf the train.
  • Nature provides the nicest light effects. A spot of sun accentuates this pair of class 140 electrics bringing an empty coal train northbound into Kaub. The second unit is dead-in-tow as the additional horsepower is only needed for the loaded train.
  • Scenic views are what the Rhein valley is all about. This mixed freight has just passed the site of the famous <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remagen#The_Bridge_at_Remagen">Remagen Bridge</a> (the dark tower in the background) on its southbound journey. This photo was taken from the <a href="http://www.rheinsteig.de/index.php?id=2&L=1">Rheinsteig</a> trail.
  • DB is notorious for minimizing the use of vegetation control chemicals, leading to scenes like this. A former ex-GDR class 155 electric leads a train of Difco ballast cars northbound through a sea of green at Lorch. In some parts of the country the situation is so bad that engines act as "lawn mowers".
