Pictures from a trip along the ex-Denver & Rio Grande Western's (now Union Pacific) Moffat Tunnel Subdivision 23rd through 25th of April, 2004. Just before our arrival, a snowstorm had moved through the area and prepared a winter wonderland that lasted the entire first day.

  • Westbound coal empties passing Kremmling, CO, in the rain.
  • The overnight snow has nearly melted off as coal empties roll down Gore Canyon.
  • Amtrak #5, the California Zephyr, rolling into Radium, CO.
  • A power balance move has this empty train nicely powered as it rolls through East Radium.
  • Bond, CO (still known as Orestod to old heads) is a crew change point for Denver and Grand Junction crews, as well as the junction of the Craig Branch. An empty move pulls up on the main for the crew to go off duty.
  • "Depot and Lunchroom" - as far as this sign is concerned, it's still the 1970s and the D&RGW is running strong.
